Method and assumptions
The tool rounds the rise to the nearest whole number of risers (never fewer than two) and divides the total rise by that count to get the actual riser height. Because the top tread meets the upper floor, the number of treads is one fewer than the number of risers.
Total run is treads × target tread depth. If that exceeds the available run, the layout will not fit the space you entered.
